Company History

W Lander & Sons was formed by William Lander in 1877 as a wire goods manufacturer and grew steadily for over 60 years, manufacturing such products as bill hooks, bread trays, toast racks and bedsteads. In the 1950s the company started to supply the growing UK automotive industry and this soon became the core market. The company continued to grow, manufacturing bonnet props, linkages, and headrests, alongside many other products.

The bending and welding technology used on wire was later applied to tube, and developed into one of the core activities of Lander. The headrest products led Lander to work with some of the leading seat manufacturers, and the company’s ability to develop innovative products allowed us to expand our product range into many of the key metal seating assembly products.

In 1991 the business was re-named Lander Automotive Ltd, and relocated to new, purpose built premises in Birmingham and has continued to grow rapidly from this time. The company is still managed today by descendants of the original founder and mixes traditional engineering skills with state of the art facilities, equipment and methodologies.
